April 2008

First of all I would like to thank everyone who attended the March meeting. We had 19 of our 31, bring items for our auction, and had others who did not bring items, but did participate in the buying of auction items. Thats a pretty good participation level for our membership! Even better beyond that we made $794 on the auction. Thats about $600 more than we did last year. Great job everyone! We did decide at the meeting to give 20% if the auction profit to the state account, so we did give the state account a check for $158.80, making our total money on the auction $635.20. We also gave the state account $100 for the cost of the hall, and I have already paid the sanctioning fees of $210 to headquarters.

VOLUNTEERS

I asked for volunteers for our 2008 show season. I would still like to have people step up throughout the year for areas that may need help, but we did get many people involved. Interest in District Director for 2009: Megan Arey and Morgan Dorr County Reps: Megan Arey, Betty Dyer, and Heidi Grant Awards Committee: Brenda Ramsdell, Beth Hodgdon, and Kelli Kilton Announcers: Jami Haskell, Lorrie McKusick, and Kim Bridges Show Secretaries: Lorrie McKusick, and Colleen Smith Ring Crew: Milt Porter, David Hodgdon, and we hope Elton Crossman Music Mixers: Brenda Ramsdell and Nancy Curtis are going to make us some new CD's to run to this year. Please realize that some people can not make it to all of the shows, and don't want to work at every show, so lets all try to pitch in to make it enjoyable for everyone.

MONEY

We are adding money to all of our shows this year. We will have at least $300 added to all of our shows. In order to keep the money in the bank account, we all need to work on fund raising and or sponsors. It was discussed and voted on that in order to be eligible for year end awards this year, each member needs to raise at least $30 for the club by the end of July. You can do this in many ways, you can get sponsors, do a bake sale, sell shirts, do a raffle or just donate the money. Be creative, and it should not be too difficult. One of the fund raisers that we are going to do is to sell raffle tickets for a Mobil Card for $100(Milt is going to pick up the card). Shirley is going to make tickets, and we will sell tickets all season, and draw the winner at our last show on October 5th. The Milbridge gang suggested and will be heading up 50/50 raffles or item raffles for each show, they would like to do a bake sale giving the profit to the club, and they would like to put on a clinic. The charge would be $15 per student, to be held at Pam Haskells in Palermo, date is to be announced. Anyone interested in helping with instruction at the clinic should contact me, and I will get you in touch with the proper contacts. There is also a candle fund raiser for anyone who would like to head that up. I have all the info, it just needs to have a leader to kick it off.

STATE MEETING

We would like to put our MaineNBHA.com website to more use. Many pictures were taken at the banquet, and I hope you get them to Carolyn so she can post them on the website. You can send things directly to Carolyn, at Carolyn@tackstop.com, for her to post. I also will try to get points to her, so your standings will be available online. I believe that I did have points posted at all of our shows, if you are unable to find them at a show, ask me, as I did post them at the shows. We are also going to post directions to the shows on the website. Megan Arey and Pam Haskell volunteered to get the directions to Carolyn. Thank you, ladies.

STATE ACCOUNT

Five people stayed for the fund raiser show after the State Show last year, and the one earlier in the year got canceled due to scheduling conflict. So NO extra money went into the state account last year, and there is about $100 in the account. The state account has to be able to afford the awards from that state show, the paperwork for the state shows, and new letters, ect.... The state account has also been paying for the banquet. This year it was decided that the two districts would split the cost of the banquet room.(which was $100 a piece). It was also decided that we would keep 80% of the auction profit for our districts, and give 20% to the state. Another way we are going to get money for the State account is to add money per show. We already give $1 per member that rides in 3-D barrels. We are going to add a $3 State fee per show. The state account will still get the $1 per member in 3-D, and will also get an additional $3 per rider.

STATE SHOW

We will be running a 4-D format this year at the State Show. We will be having a meeting with our State, District, and County Reps to determine the number of people to be paid per division. The State Show is set to be in Ellsworth, at Breezy Maples Farm in October. There is a scheduling conflict for Oct 11(they have an in house show the 2nd Sat of every month...that why we moved our district show to the 13th of July). Candy will let us know the exact date, but was looking at the following weekend which would be Oct 18.
